Reverend James L. Tillman was born in High Point, NC to Rev. George H. Tillman, Sr. & Annie J. C. Tillman. Rev. Tillman is the oldest son of six children, (four sisters and one brother). He attended the public schools in High Point and graduated from T. Wingate Andrews High School.

Reverend Tillman is married to his devoted, supportive and loving wife of 40 years, Mrs. Loretta Tillman of Shelby, NC. She serves as President of the SCR Minister Spouses Widows and Widowers Department. She has served as Director of Christian Education, President of the Usher Board, member of the Steward board, Stewardess Board, Member of the Soup Kitchen, Food Bank Ministry and attended Sunday School, Youth Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study and is very active in the life of the church. They have one son, Johnny who resides in Kansas City, Missouri. They are the proud grandparents of one grandson Tyreq, and a granddaughter Dasha.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics with a minor in Computer Programming in 1989 from Capital City Business College, Kansas City, Missouri where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.99.

Reverend Tillman grew up in a strong Christian environment. He was brought under the conviction of the Holy Spirit and accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He preached his initial sermon in April of 1998 and received his license to preach, deacon, and elders ordination through the Carolina Annual Conference Seventh Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

At his home church, St. John C.M.E. Church in Winston-Salem, NC, under the direction of Bishop Bobby R. Best, he has served as the church secretary, the pastor’s armor bearer, coordinated the church’s Radio, Audio, and Visual Ministries, served as Director of the Board of Evangelism and Missions, the Soup Kitchen Ministry, served on the Steward Board, the Pastor’s Aid Board, the Methodist Men Organization.

Directed by Bishop Best, Rev. Tillman has served as a volunteer for the Samaritan Ministries of Winston-Salem, NC., served as a Sunday School, and Bible Study Teacher, Intercessory Prayer Coordinator. President of the Computer Lab Ministry, Assistant Scout Master of the Boy Scouts, Secretary of The (BOM) Board of Ministers, and the Drug and Alcohol Ministry.

In the local community, Rev. Tillman has served as Vice President of the Democratic Party of the North West Ward of Winston-Salem, NC., on the Board of Directors for Tiffany Limousine Service of Winston-Salem, NC, as well as on the Board of Directors for Magic Moments Training Academy of Mt. Airy, NC.

He has served on the committee against Infant Mortality which is linked with Today’s Woman Health and Fitness Center for Forsyth County, he served in the Convoy of Hope initiative of Winston-Salem to help feed the community, and win souls to Christ which served 50,000 persons which was spearheaded by one of the larges churches “First Assembly Church of God” in Winston-Salem, NC. He Coordinated the Prayer Segment for the Seven Cluster Churches in the Boston and Kimberly Park Communities of Winston-Salem, NC., which provided computers for two of the elementary schools in that community. He served on the Planning board of The Maya Angelo Center, Focusing on Christians Health in the Winston-Salem, Forsyth county area. Rev. Tillman also implemented computerized financial systems for local churches.

Rev. Tillman has served as the Winston-Salem/Greenville District Representative for CIT (Communication Information Technology) Ministry. He has created websites for the Conference, the District, and various churches. He served as the Webmaster for the Carolina Region and the Winston-Salem/ Greenville District. He serves on the Joint Board of Finance and has served on the Trustee Board for the Southern California Region and serves as Chair of the Finance Committee for the Los Angeles/ San Diego District. He has been appointed as the SCR Regional Administrator, and Statistician at the Southern California Annual Conference.

He attended the Bishop’s School for Ministers (ITC) in Gastonia, NC. Rev. Tillman has severed as in Mount Airy, NC., Chesnee, SC., in Lawndale, N.C., and in Winston-Salem, NC. He is currently assigned to Bethel C.M.E. Church in Long Beach, CA.

He is currently working on his first book. His favorite spice is Texas Pete hot sauce, and his favorite food is fish, favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6., favorite song, “God has smile on me”. Rev. Tillman believes in praying about everything, all the time.

Reverend Tillman is a humble man who attributes all of his success in the ministry to God and his very supportive and loving wife. Because of his untiring efforts, and dedication to his call to the ministry, and his continued commitment to the call of God Rev. Tillman wants to remain a God fearing, anointed, and blessed servant of God. These accomplishments have been guided, and directed by the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in his life. To which he gives God the Honor, Glory and all the Praise.
